The United States of America has a strong history of producing exceptional boxers in all weight classes. Many American boxers are considered the best in the world and have won World Championships and Olympic medals. Below are just a few of the greatest and most famous boxers in American history/

Muhammad Ali

When many think of boxing, the raucous Muhammad Ali comes to mind. Born Cassius Clay in 1942, he was belted as the Heavyweight Champion of the World in just a few years. He also won a gold medal at the 1960 Olympics and gained a reputation as a social activist during the Vietnam War and Civil Rights Movement.

Oscar De La Hoya

Oscar De La Hoya, The Golden Boy, is perhaps one of the most well-known boxers on the planet. His active attitude and personality have made him a star in the sport and in Hollywood. He is a six-time champion and has taken on every challenger in his weight class.

Jack Johnson

Jack Johnson cemented his place in history when he was the first African American to ever hold the Heavyweight Championship in 1908. He held this title for another seven years. His win shook the country and the world, while at the same time instilling hope in millions of Americans during the Jim Crow era.

It is difficult to choose the greatest boxers in American history simply because the country has produced so many.
