About the World Boxing Hall of Fame

Boxing is an all-American sport just like football and baseball. In order to honor the athletes who have dedicated their life to boxing, the World Boxing Hall of Fame was opened in Riverside, California in 1980. This hall of fame receives thousands of visitors every month and does a great job of honoring legendary boxers.

History

The World Boxing Hall of Fame, also known as the WBHF for short, was founded by Everett L. Sanders in 1980. It was originally a foundation without a permanent location, but in 2005 that all changed. The WBHF partnered with the Los Angeles Athletic Club and established a permanent museum inside the club's headquarters. This was opened to the public in 2006.

Attractions

Guests who visit the museum have the opportunity to see pictures and memorabilia from each of the inductees. Well-known inductees include Georgie Abrams, Henry Armstrong, Teddy Atlas, Abe Attell, Joe Gans and Henry Greb.

The ceremony

The WBHF holds its annual induction ceremony each October. At the ceremony, each boxer is presented with a gold statue called "The Prizefighter." The sculpture was designed by Steven Harpst, a well-known boxing trainer. Professional boxers are eligible for admission to the hall of fame beginning five years after their retirement.

The World Boxing Hall of Fame offers boxing fans a unique opportunity to learn more about their favorite memorable boxers. Each inductee is a unique individual who gave their all to a sport and succeeded, often against the odds. This is a memorial worth visiting.
